Showreel

so i have to make a new showreel and i have gone through all my work and selected my favourite pieces of my work and this is the ones i chose to be in my showreel

The reasons i chose these are varied but overall these are my favourite and most accomplished pieces of animation and storytelling. Now i will now select my favourite parts and my from the group work i will select the shots that i did then edit these together as a showreel.

After cutting some of the footage down to edit i felt there was things missing so i decided to do a few pieces of work that were done last year as a unit but i just did not excel in because of my lack of knowledge of 3d animation and maya and now i feel i have maya animation skills that are stand up to most peoples and is getting rapidly better each time. So i decided to revisit the 3d walk cycle and this is what i got and this will be in my showreel along with the other pieces.

Ok so i have edited and finished my new showreel and im happy with it i think i have edited together very nicely and the music is copyright free so no problems there and rendered out in HD.

I feel it has a nice feel about it has my stamp on it and has a nice variation about it which shows off both 2d and 3d animation skills. I feel this variation is essential for my showreel because i still wish to  do both 2d animation and 3d and shows skills in both of these approches.

so my showreel is done so now i have to concentrate on applying that to a dvd menu so i decided to do my own personalized dvd menu so that it has my stamp on it.

so i re visited a small project that i had an idea for where i modelled a room and i had the idea for my menu to be worked around this.

so i rendered this out from Maya and put it as my menu

ok so put this into my dvd menu in my chosen software Dvd studio pro the reason i chose this because i feel it has the potential to be very personalized.

Anyway i started the menu and decided to make a selection for Showreel, CV and a gallery full of my animations and artwork.

so from the main menu you can see the options you can choose Showreel, CV and Gallery

 Ok so the CV is basically a slideshow which the viewer has control of by pressing the next button

 The Gallery is made up with a sub-menu which you have a choice of Animations or Artwork

 If you choose the animations selection you will get this menu where you will have the opportunity to see most of my work some of which can not yet be in my showreel because of going to festivals.

 If you choose the artwork selection it will take you straight to a slideshow of my artwork which includes artwork such as this.

So this is the graphical look on how everything connects together and how it works i have tested it on many platforms and seems to work great and has my brand and my stamp on the dvd menu.
Now to thinking about packaging.

So my dvd is burnt and working perfectly so i made some cd covers that will slot into the case for my cd very simple but shows my brand and hopefully people will remember that when seeing it.

Conclusion

So this project has been good to get a showreel done for distribution i already had a showreel but it needed improving and thats what i have done. i feel its to a good standard and i have the platform to add new stuff as i produce it.

Learning to create a personalized dvd menu was also enjoyable and informative i learnt dvd studio pro and made it so i could put my stamp and my brand onto it.

The day before hand in i was given permission to use my shots from a music video i animated for over the summer but i made the decision to keep it out of my showreel for now but i may include it in my next one.

overall its has been a useful project and i have a showreel to be happy with.
